A trend we should follow?
The digital and technological changes of the past few years have undoubtedly been one of the most serious and forward-looking changes of recent decades. Digitization means a change in the company. Analog processes are converted into digital areas in order to simply store, retrieve or process all information. Complex work processes and cumbersome business processes are digitally mapped and simplified in order to save time and money.
Every organization that wants to do business in the future or even strives for growth must orient itself to the constantly changing world of technology. Digitization is no longer a future concept, but already dominates the present.
Not only the IT industry is affected by digitization processes, but also automobile or food manufacturers, service companies and countless other industries. The assumption that digitization is not necessary or expedient for a company or a good is no longer correct today. In principle, every company or product can benefit greatly from the digital transformation of relevant data and gain extreme advantages.
For many entrepreneurs and managers, change processes of digitalization arouse negative feelings. Changes are almost always associated with costs and time expenditure. In the long run, however, investments of this kind often show an increase in efficiency and a reduction in costs. Furthermore, neither the internal IT is burdened nor valuable working time of employees is stolen.
Digitization in the company – how important is it really?
A survey by Detection, an international management and technology consulting firm, analysed the topic of digital transformation and provides information on its significance for companies. 76 organizations participated in this survey.
The survey showed that as many as 92 percent of the organizations surveyed actually rated digitization as important to very important for business success. At the same time, however, 51 percent work only partially, 39 percent little and three percent do not digitize at all.
It is quite clear that the importance of digitization is not underestimated in any case. Nevertheless, despite their awareness, some companies still lack the final push into the digital working world.
The respondents divided and defined digital business processes in the company into four different categories:
- Data-based products are made available to customers
- The digital mediation of services and products
- Digital customer interfaces
- Business processes are digitised
Anyone who does not regularly attend further training courses today will not find a connection in the digital world. Companies are becoming increasingly aware of this. Especially in the case of new technologies, the comprehensive cooperation of the most diverse specialist departments and the development of new competencies among managers and employees is required. Therefore, enterprises count more and more on further training within the enterprise. Also, external assistance and expertise of specialists are taken up as addition to the internal IT. Due to the constant and rapid development of technology, it is particularly important to gather know-how in order to remain up-to-date and not to miss potential progress for the company.
In our fully networked world, rapid order processing is becoming increasingly important. The constant increase in efficiency of work processes goes hand in hand with this. This poses a number of challenges, especially for medium-sized companies. Often the financial resources or a high number of employees are simply missing to achieve these goals. These disadvantages can be counteracted by digitization. The simplification of work processes and the digital representation of all data or information are one of the keys that lead these companies to competitive advantages and ultimately to success. New technologies also increase competition and create new markets.
Many industries such as the print media have already undergone a transformation. But competitors such as Airbnb in the hotel industry, Amazon in retail or Uber in transportation also make life difficult for countless companies. It is becoming increasingly difficult to remain a relevant market participant, because in our new digital economy there are fewer and fewer winners due to the immense increase in efficiency and the reach of the Internet. Companies will have to adapt sooner or later. The question is, when is it too late to catch up on the digital protrusion?
